Our primary objective is "to protect and enhance the natural and built heritage of our riverside environment".

Maintaining the character of the river-side environment is difficult. As most of the river valley is neither in a Conservation Area nor designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), it does not have any special protection. Indeed, river-side developments are often peripheral to most planning authority areas and frequently appear not to get the level of interest they deserve.

We are keen to see recognition of the environmental importance of at least our stretch of river valley from Medmenham to Bourne End. We are fortunate to be in an area of such outstanding countryside that is well worth protecting and enhancing.

We would like to see much greater emphasis placed on the concept of a River Thames 'Green Corridor'. Recently there has been an increase in the number of applications for demolition of existing properties and erection of new properties to very differing styles.

Our River Thames Group includes representatives of the River Thames Society and Chiltern Society and we have been able to agree a common approach - working together to try to establish some recognition of the special nature of the river corridor.

We are keen to have your comments about river-side development and how important is it to preserve the character and particular mix of properties and Green Belt along the river in this area.
