Gordon Munro Hopewell
(24 December 1933 - 30 September 2017)
We said farewell to Gordon at the Milton Chapel in Amersham on Monday 30 October 2017.
It was billed as a celebration of his life and that is exactly what happened. A rousing start with the singing of Hubert Parry's "Jerusalem" was followed by moving tributes from his son Andy and from Isobel who read out some of the many kind tributes that she had received. We then sang the Hymn "One More Step" which was such a fitting tribute to Gordon's passion for travel to faraway places. The Lord's Prayer and the closing words made a most fitting end to the celebration of Gordon's life. How we are missing him.
Donations in memory of Gordon should be given to the Shelterbox Trust or via Arnolds' Funeral service in Marlow.
Gordon had been a stalwart supporter of The Marlow Society for many years and his loss is keenly felt. After the sad and unexpected death of Patricia Burstall, Gordon stepped forward and took over the organisation of our summertime walks and led many of them himself. He was a member of our History Group Committee where his pragmatic enthusiasm was greatly valued.
