OPPORTUNITY FOR FREE TOUR OF SCHEDULED ANCIENT MONUMENT NEAR MARLOW

The Marlow Society Local History Group is providing a rare opportunity to take a free tour of a Scheduled Ancient Monument on Heritage Day, Sunday 12 September, 2010.  This is at Danesfield, just five miles from Marlow on the Henley Road (SL7 2EY).  This area includes an Iron Age hillfort and has been the site of a series of wonderful houses, the latest of which is now the Grade 2 listed Danesfield Hotel, which had an amazing history during World War Two.  Come and learn all about it.  Tours start at 2pm until 4pm.  The tours take about an hour and include a few hilly areas, so walking shoes are essential. Those travelling by bus should alight at the Danesfield Hotel stop between Marlow and Henley. Car drivers should take the A4155 to Danesfield and enter by the Danesfield Hotel driveway. Follow the signs to the hotel car park from whence the tours will start.
