Great Marlow was for centuries a significant inland port. By the early nineteenth century the Thames was a major commercial artery, but on 1st June, 1838 the Great Western Railway reached Maidenhead.

This permanently changed the role of the river and quickly altered the town of Marlow for ever.

Adam Baxter will talk about the impact the railways had on the river and it's uses

Adam has lived in Marlow for almost 40 years and is a member of the Marlow Society.
